When can I request a refund?

You can request a refund on your TV Licence if:

  • you won’t need your licence again before it expires;
  • you have already paid for your licence in full;
  • you have more than one month left on it;
  • less than two years have passed since the date the licence expired (If you are entitled to a free over 75 TV Licence or a blind concessionary licence, the two-year time limit does not apply to your refund request);
  • you no longer watch or record live TV, or download or watch BBC programmes on iPlayer;
  • you’re moving to an address that already has a TV Licence;
  • you have two licences for the same address, but only need one;
  • the licence holder has died;
  • you’re living with someone aged 75 or over;
  • you’re moving into a care home;
  • you’re moving abroad.

The government funded, free over 75 TV Licence scheme is being replaced on 1 August 2020.
