How to get a free TV Licence if you’re aged 75 or over

The government funded, free over 75 TV Licence scheme is being replaced on 1 June 2020.

If you are aged 75 or over:

You can apply for a free TV Licence. You can also apply for a free licence if you live with people who are younger than you.

Before you apply

You will need to have the following details ready:

  • date of birth
  • National Insurance number
  • name and address (including postcode)
  • current TV Licence number.

Aged 74 birthday card

If you are aged 74:

You can get a short-term licence to cover you until your 75th birthday, when we will send you a free over 75 TV Licence.

Before you apply

You will need to have the following details ready:

  • date of birth

  • current TV Licence number.

If you live in the Channel Islands or Isle of Man:

Different rules apply to free, over 75 TV Licences and short-term licences if you live in the Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey or Sark.
