-
You may be asked to provide your name, address, other contact details (such as your email address and mobile phone number) and payment information (such as your bank account and credit or debit card details) in order to receive or use certain services which are provided by TV Licensing, either through this website or otherwise. We may also use indirect methods to collect personal information if we are unable to obtain information from you or to confirm that information.

We also gather information about visitors to this website, although you cannot be identified from this information. Please see below for more information about our use of cookies.

Will we send e-communications such as emails and text messages to you?

-
We will only send text messages, emails or any other types of e-communications to you if you have consented to receiving such communications. When we ask for your consent, we will specifically inform you of the purpose(s) for which we will communicate with you and that the communication will be by email, text message or another e-communication method.

If you have provided your email address or mobile phone number when contacting us, we may send you an email or text message for the purpose of fulfilling your request, for example, to respond to your query or seek more information from you. We will not further use that email address or mobile phone number to communicate with you unless you have also opted in to receive e-communications from us on an ongoing basis.

If you have bought a TV Licence online in the past, we may send you a one-off email to let you know about our enhanced electronic delivery services and to seek your opt in to receive your TV Licence and payment plan (if applicable) by email, as well as other relevant emails.

How do I opt out of receiving text messages or emails from TV Licensing?

-
If you have signed up to receive text messages such as reminders to pay, please use the contact details provided in the text message or click here for our contact details to let us know that you no longer wish to receive these messages. You may also use these same details to opt out of receiving emails or click on the 'Opt out' link in the email if one is provided.

You can opt out of receiving your TV Licence and payment plan (if applicable) electronically by clicking on this link and following the instructions. You may do so at any time, but, in order to give us sufficient time to process your request, we must receive your request at least four weeks prior to the expiry of your current TV Licence.

If the text message or email that you have received contains information about TV Licensing but has been sent by someone other than TV Licensing (you can tell that the sender is not TV Licensing if another company or organisation is identified in the sender field), you must send your request to opt out to that sender and not to TV Licensing. This is because the message was sent on behalf of TV Licensing, and your personal details, including your mobile phone number and email address, were not disclosed to TV Licensing nor will they be further processed by TV Licensing for this purpose.

What is a cookie?

-
A cookie is a small amount of data, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier that is sent to your browser from a website's computer and stored on your computer's hard drive. Each website can send its own cookie to your browser if your browser's preferences allow it. But, in order to protect your privacy, your browser only permits a website to access the cookies it has sent to you and not any cookies sent to you by other sites.

Many organisations do this whenever a user visits their website in order to track online traffic flows.

Cookies record information about your online preferences. Users have the opportunity to set their computers to accept all cookies, to notify them when a cookie is issued, or not to receive cookies at any time. If you choose not to accept any cookies, certain personalised services cannot then be provided to you and you may not be able to take full advantage of all our website's features. Each browser is different, so check the "Help" menu of your browser to learn how to change your cookie preferences (and see below for information).

If you have set your computer to reject cookies, you can still browse www.tvlicensing.co.uk anonymously until such time as you wish to register to receive any services. For further information on cookies, please visit www.aboutcookies.org. This will open in a new window.

What sort of cookies are used on this website?

-
We use two types of cookies: session cookies and stored cookies.

Session cookies: these expire at the end of the user's browser session and can also expire after the session has been inactive for a specified length of time, usually 20 minutes. Session cookies are stored in the computer's memory and are automatically deleted from the user's computer when the browser is closed.

Stored cookies: these are stored on the user's computer and are not deleted when the browser is closed. Stored cookies can retain user preferences for a particular website, allowing those preferences to be used in future browsing sessions.
