Cancellations and refunds
Here you can find out how to cancel a TV Licence and when you can claim a refund.
- You're moving address
- You may have moved in with someone who already has a TV Licence, moved abroad, received a letter for a previous occupier or will not watch TV at your new address.
- A TV Licence holder has died
- A member of the household will still be covered by the current TV Licence. If the licence is no longer needed a refund may be due to the estate.
- You don't watch TV
- You have a TV Licence but will not watch or record television programmes as they’re being shown on TV again before your licence expires.
- You’d like to cancel only your current payment scheme
- You still need your TV Licence but want to cancel your current payment method. This applies to Direct Debits and TV Licensing payment cards.
- You’ve an extra licence at the same address
- You have paid the licence fee twice for the same address or changed the type of licence – for example from black and white to colour, or full fee to Free Over 75.
Refund form and advice
When you cancel your licence, you may be eligible for a refund if one of the above applies to you. You can apply for a refund using our online refund form, up to two years after the expiry date of your licence.
You may have to print the refund form and supply evidence. Our refund form advice page will give more guidance if you are unsure about what to do after printing the form.
